Youth Month Virtual Poetry Slam Competition 2021

The National Library of South Africa (NLSA) in collaboration with the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) is proud to host the annual Youth Month Poetry Slam Competition 2021!  The 2021 virtual competition is in commemoration of Youth Month.  South African youth between the ages of 18 and 35 are invited to submit their original works under one of the following themes:

  • Libraries as a foundation of intellectual and literary freedom
  • June 16 and the right to language

Entries may be submitted in any of the South African official languages, Khoi, San and Nama languages as well as the South African Sign Language.  Entrants who are visually impaired or use the South African language must upload a video not larger than 100MB and other entrants must submit their poems in written text not exceeding 250 words.  Contestants are urged to familiarise themselves with the rules of entry before submitting their poems.
